Consumer Liaison Group PDF Print E-mail

NCRI Consumer Liaison Group (CLG) The CLG operates to improve the quality and value of cancer research through consumer involvement and by working with other organisations helps to raise public awareness of clinical research and cancer research in particular.

The NCRI CLG was formed in April 2001 at the same time as the NCRN, following its transfer from the UK Co-ordinating Committee on Cancer Research.  The CLG acts as a focal point for discussion, advice and feedback to the NCRI, NCRN and wider stakeholders on cancer research issues affecting consumers.

CLG terms of reference

David Ardron – CLG Chair

Mr David Ardron was appointed as Chair of the NCRI Consumer Liaison Group in June 2008, for a period of three years. David brings a wide range of experiences to the role as a consumer working in cancer research at both local and national levels through his involvement in the NCRI Consumer Liaison Group and the NCRI Clinical Studies Group for Lung Cancer.

David has previously been involved as a member of the NCRI Strategic Planning Group for positron emission tomography (PET) Scanning Research and in addition is currently a member of the National Lung Cancer Audit Clinical Reference Group and the executive for the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre in Development in Sheffield.

David has also played an active role in driving the development and support of local consumer research panels (CRPs) and believes that CRPs have a significant role to play in the future of health research. He has chaired the North Trent Consumer Research Panel since 2007

The CLG brings together individuals with personal experiences of cancer including patients, carers and relatives as well as representatives of cancer support organisations, researchers and other professionals with an interest in consumer involvement in cancer research as part of their roles.

The CLG currently meets three times a year with additional contacts and discussions via various project groups, email and teleconference. As part of its remit, the Consumer Liaison Group provides patient and public representation for all the NCRI Clinical Studies Groups
